Old Sneakers - 1946 Women's Gym Shoes

1946 Sears canvas women's white high-top gym shoeThe Sears catalogue promised "snappy foot action" and "solid comfort" from this white high-top gym shoe. (Interestingly enough, the same page described the men's brown canvas basketball high-top as being "action-free." Go figure...)

For only $1.69 (a similar canvas and rubber shoe was 98¢ in 1931), women and girls got a shoe promising "long wearing rubber soles" that "have rugged tread to resist skids." Customers were further assured that this shoe was "wonderful for sports, hikes... and all active duty."
